Croft Vintage Port 2007
Wine SpectatorShows aromas of very ripe fruit and sweet tobacco, with hints of earth and spices. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with round, velvety tannins and a long, fruity finish. Likeable for its soft texture. Best after 2016.
Wine AdvocateFrom the 1991 vintage through 2003, the well-known producer Croft has received outstanding ratings in this journal. In that context the 2007 Croft Vintage Port is a mild disappointment. It is a straightforward effort with an attractive nose of damp earth, mineral, blackberry, and plum with herbal notes in the background. On the palate it comes off as a bit narrow, lacking in volume compared to the top wines of the vintage. It is firmly structured and is likely to evolve for up to a decade but is not a candidate for extended cellaring.
Wine EnthusiastWith its dry, dark side, this wine offers firm tannins to go with the somewhat austere structure. Of course there is sweetness here and an attractive perfumed violet aroma, but the texture dominates.
