Cardedu Cannonau di Sardegna Caladu 2016
|Region||Italy, Sardinia, Cannonau di Sardegna|
'Caladu' is the Sardinian word for sunset - one of the many times when you can enjoy this wine. It's spicy and smoky, with fleshy fruit and dusty tannins. It matches especially well with grilled meats - flank steak, sausages, pork ribs, lamb lollipops - or in Sardinia, with the local roasted suckling pig called porceddu.

The lieu-dit ‘Haut Coustias’ faces full south. Vine age 70 to 90 years. Hand-harvested. Fermented on indigenous yeasts in demi-muid. Domaine Louis Magnin Vin de Savoie Arbin Mondeuse 2013The Mondeuse "Classique" is a rustic wine with a slight smokiness to the nose, herbaceous and spicy on the palate and marked by gentle tannins in the finish. Certified Organic.
Domaine Luneau Papin Muscadet Sèvre & Maine Clos des Allées 2018
Domaine Vacheron Sancerre 2018Aromas of grapefruit zest and gunflint. Flavors of lemons and limes, sea salt, crisp pears. Pair with salads with Loire Valley regional goat cheese; oysters or other fresh shellfish.
Floatsam & Jetsam CinsaultThis wine is made from dry farmed bushvine parcels with an average age of around 240 years divided by 6. We tend to pick Cinsault relatively early. Up until now we've always used 100% whole cluster fermentation, with very gentle extraction work, if any. This philosophy accounts for the wines being quite "light and bright". Over-ripe and over-extracted Cinsault can be lead-footed and syrupy. Maturation in neutral oak and in tank. Future vintages will be matured in cement tanks.
Gerard Bertrand Réserve Spéciale Cabernet Sauvignon 2017A colourful wine with plenty of tannic presence and good ageing potential, gradually developing complex bouquets in which under-wood aromas stand out. This is a rounded 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with intense fruit aromas (cassis, redcurrant, plum) and subtle spices, offering perfect balance and good length on the palate. Serve at 18°C with roast beef, poultry or mature cheeses.
Gerard Bertrand Réserve Spéciale Pinot Noir 2017Taste: Rounded and fruity. Nose: Fruity wine offering notes of ripe cherry, wild raspberry and spices, as well as silky tannins and an elegant, balanced finish. Robe: Velvety textures. Food and wine pairing: Serve with grilled lamb, chicken tagine or mature cheeses.
Gernot Heinrich Zweigelt 2015Punctiliously perceptible warmth and the pleasant sense of comfort in the shape of Bing cherry is the essence of this Zweigelt. Clear, streamlined varietal typicity is expressed with abundant dark berried fruit that mingles with the freshness of sour cherry, mischievous pepperiness of lingonberry, and voluptuous Black Forest cherry cake. Analogous to the vintage, it presents itself full-bodied and of welldisposed ripeness with a firm, yet fine-boned tannin frame and a touch of fat on the ribs. Serve at 15-16° C (59-61° F) to allow the ample fruit free rein.
Gönc 1Gamay 2017Bright ruby hue, great extraction and concentration, with aromas of bright cherry, raspberries, and dark spices. On the pallet the wine is juicy, round, spicy, and harmonious, with notes pronounced on the nose. Long lingering finish. An amazing expression of Gamay!
Gönc 6 Blaufrankisch 2017This wine grows on gravel stone which presents very hard conditions for the vine. As a result, there is a small yield from the vineyard and highly concentrated juice from the berries. The tannins are spicy and sweet while on the nose you get ripe blueberries and blackberries with a hint of middle eastern spices. Fun fact: Blaufrankisch is a Slovenian indigenous grape variety with a German name.
Gönc Pavel 2018Named after Peter's grandfather, Pavel is a very aromatic and crisp full bodied white wine. It offers aromas of white flower, green apple, citrus, and saline notes. The palate is round and creamy with aromas carried over from the nose. A delightful very low sulfite wine perfect for all your seafoods and warm nights.
Illahe Estate Grüner Veltliner 2017The 2017 Illahe Grüner Veltliner introduces itself with light but dense aromas of dried peach, honey crisp apple, and fresh cedar board. This wine is fermented partially in acacia barrels which offer herbal flavors and complex texture. The palate also contains flavors of red grapefruit, graham cracker, and white nectarine. The balanced acid and strong mouthfeel create a beautiful wine ready for drinking or aging.
Domaine de la Chanteleuserie Bourgueil Cuvee Alouettes 2018The "Cuvée Alouettes," alluding to the name of the domaine, is fresh, supple, fruity, and ready to be drunk young. A fruity and drinkable wine. Made from vines around the estate, on clay sand grounds. Vinification and aging are done in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit. Serve with white meats, roasts, savory pies and cold meats.
Cantine Povero Barbera d'Asti 2018Light, bright, clean, and fresh. A varietally perfect example of Barbera.
Cardedu Praja Monica di Sardegna 2018Monica is an indigenous grape variety from Sardegna (possibly with Spanish origins). The vineyards of Cardedu (car-DAY-do) are in the area of Ogliastra, the most mountainous and least populous province on the island. 'Praja' is the Sardinian word for the Italian 'spiaggia', or 'beach', which is one of the many places you can enjoy this wine. It's the kind of light red wine that takes well to a slight chilling down; it's dry, moderate alcohol, and earthy, with just a touch of fruit. Drink it as an aperitivo or with lighter grilled fare (seafood, vegetables, poultry). And it's a natural partner to Sardinian fregula, a couscous-like toasted pasta.
Delinquente Wine Company Screaming Betty Vermentino 2017From a small batch, natural-leaning producer, this wine is a bright and fruit drop that's easy to like. Stone fruits, red apple skins and florals carry to a palate that slithers smoothly like water over river rock. There're no hard edges and no funk here. Just deliciousness in a glass.
Höpler Pannonica Red 2014Hoepler wines have a clear signature. They tend to be delicate, elegant and high in minerality. They are excellent to drink on their own but versatile when it comes to food and wine pairing.
Las Jaras Glou Glou Red 2019This vintage can make your homebound meal sing. Glou Glou is the kind of light red that tastes like sparkles and bright, summer fruit. It has enough acid to stand up to your favorite pasta and tomato sauce, with intense berry notes that can perfectly complement a smoky, tangy BLT. Serve slightly chilled-this is the most refreshing red wine ever, and the perfect antidote to long evenings at home. Most of the grapes underwent carbonic maceration, the classic fermentation method of the Beaujolais, which means that fermentation happened inside of berries themselves, causing them to explode in happy, boozy ecstasy. That's how you'll feel when you drink this wine-it dances in your mouth. It is great, you will love it!
Martha Stoumen Wines Post Flirtation Rose 2019This rosé is bursting at the seams with summer. Peak season strawberry leads the flavor parade, while hints of pomegranate and rhubarb add a touch of bitter and tart, and neutral barrel fermentation + a tad of residual sugar rounds out the palate; a lively wine that will be fun to drink on hot days and warm nights. Winemaker Notes The Zinfandel gets pressed whole cluster, and is lightly racked (capturing the majority of juice lees) to barrel for fermentation. We foot tread the Negroamaro and leave it on stems and skins overnight prior to pressing it directly to neutral barrel for fermentation. I prefer using barrels for rosé fermentations instead of stainless-steel tanks. It softens the wine and creates a welcoming, round body; contrasting many rosés that can be quite angular. Soon after primary and malolactic fermentation, we racked this wine off the lees to keep it fresh and light. The outcome being a nicely balanced wine, soft yet full of energetic, textural acidity. The Negroamaro is a special addition to this year’s blend, and we started working with Fox Hill Negroamaro specifically with this wine in mind. It adds some exotic flavors and textures to the pure strawberry notes of Zin rosé. This is a classic Post Flirtation wine — exuberant and almost too easy to drink! - Martha Stoumen
McPherson MWC Pinot Noir 2017The aroma is enticing with intense plum, cherry and strawberry fruit with a hint of spicy oak. The fresh fruit momentum continues on the palate with vibrant plum and dark stone fruits finishing with some firm acid, beautiful tannins and integrated oak. A great match with roast duck, rabbit and other game meats or medium intensity dishes like porcini mushroom risotto or fine cheese.
Martha Stoumen Wines Post Flirtation White 2019This mineral driven wine gives off aromas of fresh ocean air, white pepper and kiwi. A beautifully light bodied wine that would complement a variety of foods from Dim Sum to oysters. Take me anywhere! Winemaker Notes This is always a fun wine to make, as it is the first fruit to come into the winery in late August. First Generation Farmers is located outside of Oakley, Contra Costa County (affectionately CoCo). The weather and soils of CoCo are reminiscent of the Mediterranean, with a hot land mass, super duper sandy soils, and a near constant cooling wind coming off of the very cold salty waters of the Carquinez Strait. The resulting wines are full of summer flavors, slightly salty, and extremely drinkable. In 2018 we blended in some earlier season Colombard to illuminate the brightness of this wine. This old vine Colombard is versatile, as it maintains basically the same sugar level and acidity on the vine from August to November. When picked in late August it reminds me of a featherweight Basque Txakoli (while our late season Colombard going into our Honeymoon has a more Chenin-like characteristics). As fun as it is to make, this wine is even more fun to drink. - Martha Stoumen
McBride Sisters Black Girl Magic Riesling 2018Intensely aromatic, this wine shows typical ripe Riesling characteristics, including honey, apricot, and white flowers. Tangerine, jasmine, and coriander seed appear in the nose, as the palate turns to tropical flavors evocative of guava and pineapple. Mild sweetness is balanced by a bright core of tangy citrus for a mouth-watering, sweet and sour finish.
Nicole Chanrion Côte de Brouilly 2018This wine shows the dark fruit and firm structure typical of the Côte de Brouilly with its silky tannins and sensuous texture.
Pike Road Pinot Gris 20182018 was a vintage for rich, bold flavors in Willamette Valley wines. Starting hot and dry through the spring and summer, by September rain was a welcome relief. Cooler temperatures during harvest slowed ripening and increased hang-time. With multiple vineyards ripening simultaneously in October, our crew put in long hours at the end of crush. Their hard work has paid off with bold fruit-forward red wines and fresh, stone-fruited white wines that veer into the tropical. 2018 was a warm vintage that ended cool giving us wines with a captivating combination of flavors.
Roca Altxerri Getariako Txakolina 2017The gentle fizz (as is traditional for Txakoli) is just one of the many charming elements to Roca Altxerri. Bone dry with angular but balanced acidity with a plethora of fruit notes including grapefruit and melon with fresh grass and spring flower notes on the nose. Break out the porrón!
Stefano Massone Gavi Masera 2018This delicious wine packs an amazing amount of flavor in a light to medium bodied frame! Notes of crisp pears and apples with a lovely, lingering, refreshing finish. Best Gavi for the money, hands down! Color: Straw yellow. Nose: Persistent. Flavor: Intense - fruity. Match with: Fish dishes.
Vina Maitia Weon Carignan 2018Notes of blackberry, cinnamon and cedar on the nose with a palate of dark fruit and mushrooms, and a finish of black pepper spice.
Zin Collective Zinfandel 2018Ruby red in color. Expressive, rich nose full of rhubarb, blackberry pie and brambly red fruits. Secondary notes of vanilla and spice box. Medium-bodied mouthful of blackberry, ripe, red currant and black cherry. Supple tannins and perfect acidity buoy and brighten a lengthy finish framed with a trace of tobacco and baker's chocolate.
