Royal Oporto Late Bottled Vintage 2012

Royal Oporto Late Bottled Vintage 2012

SKU 53477

Late Bottled Vintage is a style derived of Vintage Port. They are Ports of excelent quality originating also from a single year. Bottled four years after the harvest, LBV's on the contrary to Vintage, benefit from considerable ageing in oak vats. In spite of being full-bodied, due to their stay in wood, they are softer and smoother, thus facilitating their immediate consumption. This Late Bottled Vintage Port can be enjoyed while young, yet it has enormous potential to age in bottle. An ideal partner for blue cheese.

Wine AdvocateThe 2012 Late Bottled Vintage Port was bottled in April 2016 with a bar top cork. It comes in with 105 grams per liter of residual sugar. An old vines field blend (60 years of age), it was lightly filtered with a large-pore filter, but not cold stabilized. This is lovely, elegant, expressive and aromatic, with a juicy finish filled with the flavors of lifted fruit mingling with some sugar. The finish has beautiful tension and a fresh feel. The mid-palate concentration mostly reflects the vintage--it is not the richest LBV you can find, but it is certainly fine for this year. This could easily age a couple of decades, but the bar top cork is a sign that it is not meant to do so. If well stored--and if there are no cork failures--there is no rush. On the other hand, you can certainly dive in now. It may still improve a bit in the bottle.
