DiamAndes De Uco Malbec 2014
|Region||Argentina, Mendoza, Alto Vale de Uco|
Dark chocolate and Asian spice flavors give this an exotic allure. Christmas pudding notes linger on the rich, creamy finish. Drink now through 2020. 6,500 cases made.
The 2014 Diamandes de Uco Malbec has 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and was fermented in small stainless steel tanks followed by 14 months in French barriques, half of them new. In general, I get too much new oak in the wines here, and I believe they could express the place, vintage and variety with a little less new oak, which tends to homogenize them and make them feel mainstream, as the élevage masks the real character of the wine. Ripe fruit, toast, oaky flavors of vanilla, a soft texture and moderate to low acidity are common characteristics to the reds. 80,000 bottles produced.
