Chateau Ste. Michelle Cold Creek Vineyard Merlot 2013
|Region||United States, Washington, Columbia Valley|
|Brand||Chateau Ste. Michelle|
Wine AdvocateBrought up in a big chunk of American oak, the inky colored 2013 Cold Creek Vineyard Merlot (there's 2% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend) gives up lots of vanilla, chocolate and assorted dark fruits in a rich, textured, full-bodied, forward style. I could do without the American oak, but this has plenty of fruit and texture, and is a fun drink. Enjoy it over the coming couple of years.
Wine SpectatorTrim and firm in texture, with currant and tobacco aromas and medium-bodied flavors that finish with a tannic bite. Best after 2018. 1,800 cases made.
Wine EnthusiastBaking spice and vanilla aromas are at the fore, followed by blue fruit and barrel spices. The barrel influence (71% new French and American) leads on the palate as well, with abundant vanilla flavors that wash over the fruit. There's some good fruit underneath, if you can get to it.
