Tasting Notes The old vines of Clos Napoléon yield pure, well-balanced wine with high-toned notes of cherry, earth, and wood spice, combined with depth and length on the palate. This is one of the richer, more structured wines of the Fixin appellation. Food Pairing Red Burgundy might be the world's most flexible food wine. The wine's high acidity, medium body, medium alcohol, and low tannins make it very food friendly. Red Burgundy, with its earthy and sometimes gamey character, is a classic partner to roasted game birds, grilled duck breast, and dishes that feature mushrooms, black truffles, or are rich in umami.

Wine SpectatorA straightforward, cherry-, earth- and spice-flavored red, with moderate tannins. Balanced, if a bit lean. Best from 2019 through 2032. 245 cases imported.

Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Fixin 1er Cru Clos Napoléon is a 1.80-hectare monopole belonging to the domaine. This vintage includes 50% whole bunch fruit. It has a tightly wound nose, nicely defined and detailed with blackberry and raspberry fruit, hints of limestone underneath. The palate is well balanced, supple in the mouth with a keen line of acidity. I appreciate the weight and elegance here -- this comes recommended.
