J. Wilkes Pinot Blanc 2014

SKU 50619

Appearance: Light straw, brilliant clarity. Aromatics: Fuji apple, lime zest, nectarine flesh, orange blossoms. Faint hint of saline minerality. Aromatics are bright, alluring, complex and primary. Summer in a glass. Enticing and seductive. Palate: Bright, nervey with great balance, peach skin, nectarine flesh, white flower, minerality and broad mouth feel, solid crispness, attack and cut(bright, mouth-cleansing acidity). Food Pairing: This wine is bright, aromatic and delicious enough for cocktails around the pool on a warm day, structured enough for a cheese and charcuterie plate, and perfect for classic Alsatian cuisine: pan-fried frog's legs (cuisses de grenouilles) in parsley cream sauce. For the less adventurous, a dozen Morro Bay oysters, a white sauce pizza with shrimp and bacon, or grilled peach halves with burrata cheese. Speaks clearly of Santa Maria sun, wind, and fog.

Wine EnthusiastApple and pear cider aromas mix with grapefruit peel, lime marmalade, peach blossoms and stone fruit on the nose of this rarely made varietal. The palate shows slightly sour, bitter apple peels and lemon skin.

Wine AdvocateAnother well-made, yet simple effort, the 2014 Pinot Blanc has subtle chamomile and lime peel notes in a medium to light-bodied, clean, juicy and quaffable style. There's not much complexity or depth here, but it's well-made, balanced and a good wine.
