Faisao Red 2014
Wine EnthusiastRipe, balanced and attractive, this red boasts fine tannins that lend subtle structure to the black plum fruit. Dense with fruitiness and acidity, it's rich enough to savor with meat. Drink now.
Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Tinto Faisão (Dão) is a blend of 50% Tinta Roriz, 30% Alfrocheiro and 20% Touriga Nacional, unoaked. It comes in at ten grams per liter of residual sugar, making it semi-dry in theory, and 13% alcohol. Despite the sugar, this shows some of the dusty dryness that many 2014s have, not being quite as vivid or as fruity as one might expect, although it does begin to show more flavor with air. That said, in a tough year at this price level, there's a lot to like here. It is also good that the sugar does not take this over. It seems like a pretty normal table wine for the most part, a friendly picnic quaffer. There is modest concentration at best, of course, but there is a little structure and a bright feel. At this level, it is made to drink young, so dive in this summer. Drink it just a bit on the cool side, too.
