Cooper Mountain Tocai Friulano 2014

SKU 42707

The esoteric grape of Tocai Friulano is also known as Sauvignon Vert, cousin to much more prolific Sauvignon Blanc. Tocai Friulano is the dominant white wine in the Friuli region of Northeastern Italy, although its origins begin in France to Chile and back to Itlay. Tocai Friulano is often confused with the Hungarian Tokaji although they are not related and the Hungarian Tokaji is typically vinified as a dessert wine. Tocai Friulano is a transition between Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay on the palate richness scale. Cooper Mountain's story with the grape begins in 2004 when we planted 2.5 acres of the grape in our warmer Chehalem Mountains AVA site. At this time we believe we have the only planting of Tocai Friulano in Oregon. The wine is an aromatic treat with peaches, mineral, citrus and a hint of spice. The rich, dry palate exhibits honeysuckle and cool melon and finishes with nicely integrated acids. A perfect wine partner for shellfish and curry.

Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Tocai Fruilano comes from the Johnson School vineyard planted in 2004. I prefer this to the 2013 - more fruit intensity here with nectarine, blood orange and lemongrass aromas that pack quite a punch. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a touch of spice infusing the citrus fruit mixed with grapefruit and a touch of dried honey. There is nice bitter note on the finish that lends tension. Vastly superior to the 2013, enjoy this Tocai Fruilano over the next 3-5 years.
