Adelsheim Elizabeth's Reserve Pinot Noir 2012
Wine EnthusiastSoft and seductive, this wine is seriously sexy with its palate-coating flavor-fest that runs from bright, crisp raspberry into ripe Bing cherry. Lemony acids underscore the lush fruit, and 10 months aging in one-third new barrels brings finishing highlights of caramel and toasted coconut.
Wine AdvocateThe 2012 Pinot Noir Elizabeth's Reserve comes from 70% estate and 30% purchased fruit and is considered to be Adelsheim's flagship wine. The vineyard blocks are kept separate or can be separate themselves so that they can end up with up to 50 lots to create a wine that stands alone and not something representing a single block. Matured in 31% new oak, this has a very perfumed bouquet with small dark cherries, hints of cassis and blueberry developing. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, well-judged acidity and a powdery-textured finish that is fresh and quite mineral-driven. This is a fine Pinot Noir, though I find as much to appreciate in the regular Pinot Noir.
Wine SpectatorMint and green olive notes weave through the blackberry and gentle spice flavors, picking up intensity as the medium-weight finish plays against refined tannins. Best from 2016 through 2020. 2,261 cases made.
