Altocedro Año Cero Tempranillo 2013
Wine AdvocateI encounter a lot less Tempranillo in Argentina than I expected, and the 2013 Año Cero Tempranillo from Altocedro is one of the few varietals there. For some reason most of the Spanish grapes from Mendoza seem to come from La Consulta. The Año Cero line ferments in cement and has a partial aging (30% of the wine) in French oak for 8-10 months. It has a cherry-driven nose, quite clean with nicely-integrated oak, which certainly stands out among so many Malbecs. The clean palate is medium-bodied and has nice acidity and supple flavors. 27,000 bottles produced.
Wine SpectatorOffers a ripe aroma, with dense, brawny flavors of roasted plum and bacon bits. Chewy finish. 650 cases made.
