First planted in 1952, the vineyards in the Rocche dell'Annunziata and Torriglione plots are particularly special, due to their calcareous soils, which contribute to the incredible elegance of this iconic Barolo. The must is macerated with the skins for two weeks, allowing for greater color extraction. The wine is matured for two years in a combination of new and used oak barrels, and refined for at least three years in the bottle before being released.

Wine AdvocateThe 2006 Rocche dell'Annunziata/Torriglione reveals a rich, kaleidoscope of perfumed aromas that meld seamlessly into a palate of ripe red fruit. The tannins are silky and exceptionally refined, yet the wine possesses plenty of muscle, depth and richness, albeit in a style that favors elegance over power. Along with the Cerequio and the Sarmassa, the Rocche is one of Voerzio's more feminine Barolos. In 2006, it is drop-dead gorgeous. Patience is required, but readers who are able to lovingly cellar this wine will not be disappointed. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031.

Wine SpectatorSweet cherry and blackberry aromas and flavors take on added dimension, with licorice and menthol accents. Boasts a firm base of tannins that need to integrate, but overall this is balanced and long. Best from 2014 through 2032.
