Deep ruby red. Aromas of clove and subtle white pepper followed by plum with hints elegant spice. Medium bodied with red fruit and integrated oak. Well balanced acidity and tannins will allow this wine to age well.

Wine AdvocateThe 2013 Chakalaka is a blend of 50% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre, 13% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignan, 8% Grenache and 6% Tannat. The nose is very perfumed with maraschino cherries, candied orange peel and cassis scents that are all very seductive. The palate is well balanced with a succulent fruity foundation of cranberry and wild strawberry overlain with cocoa and dried herbs. I like this Chakalaka - commercially driven, but very well executed with plenty of freshness and vitality.

Wine SpectatorA rich, toasty style, featuring a hefty layer of cocoa draped over the core of melted black licorice and warmed plum sauce flavors. Gains finesse through the finish, with the silky structure letting everything meld. Syrah, Mourvèdre, Petite Sirah, Carignan, Grenache and Tannat. Drink now through 2016. 5,000 cases made.
