Clarendon Hills Hickinbotham Vineyard Old Vines Grenache 2004

Clarendon Hills Hickinbotham Vineyard Old Vines Grenache 2004

SKU 34678

Situated just across the road from the Clarendon Old Vines Grenache Vineyard but on much harder ground facing north. The wine here is quite austere in its youth developing slowly but positively. Always shows lots of spice on the nose, marzipan also, and a palate which is long and tightly focused with abundant white pepper and Asian spices in the aftertaste. This wine needs cellaring to unravel all of its mysteries.

Wine AdvocateFrom a vineyard planted in rocky soils containing considerable ironstone, the 2004 Grenache Old Vines Hickinbotham Vineyard reveals a dense color, minerality, and black fruits (blackberries, black cherries, and black raspberries). Full-bodied, with fine acidity, ripe tannin, and an expansive, savory mouthfeel, it will benefit from another year of bottle age, and should last for a decade.

Wine SpectatorFirm. Calls to mind a huge bowl of red fruit, with raspberry, wild strawberry and guava flavors accompanied by heady aromatics of white pepper and sweet spices. Drink now through 2016. 500 cases imported
