Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2000
|Region||California, Napa Valley|
Starts out with creamy, milk chocolaty oak leading to a core of currant and plum-flavored fruit, offering richness, depth and complexity, finishing with a plush, concentrated aftertaste. Those who like well-oaked Cabernets will find this most appealing. Drink now through 2010. 25,000 cases made.
The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color in addition to a big, cocoa-scented nose, a sweet entry on the palate, medium body, and a short, abrupt finish. A modest success for the vintage, it is a friendly, easy-to-drink effort that should be consumed over the next 7-8 years. My wine group recently did a vertical of all the Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignons, which proved several things. First, this is a surprisingly erratic producer. While some terrific efforts are produced, other wines have matured and faded quickly. Vintages since the mid-nineties have not been as intensely flavored, but they are still very good. This is generally an oaky (American wood), flashy, easy to drink offering.
